Born on March 4, 1941, in Englewood, New Jersey, Aprea grew up with a passion for acting. After spending part of his childhood abroad, he returned to the U.S. and later moved to New York in the 1960s to pursue his dream of becoming an actor. His screen debut came in 1968 with the Steve McQueen film Bullitt, and he quickly began to establish a name for himself in both film and television.

Aprea’s breakthrough role came in 1974 when he portrayed the young Salvatore Tessio in The Godfather Part II, solidifying his place in Hollywood. Aprea became a household name with his role as Nick Katsopolis, the fun-loving grandfather, on the hit sitcom Full House. He reprised the role in the 2017 reboot Fuller House on Netflix, demonstrating his ability to transition from intense dramatic roles to lighthearted comedy with ease.

John Aprea is survived by his third wife, Betsy, his daughter Nichole, and two stepchildren, Valentino and Marika. He was predeceased by his sister, Rosanna.
